About

Jacqueline Pelland is a criminal defence lawyer at White & Jeet Criminal Defence. She is a proud member of the Red River Metis Nation from Treaty 1, Manitoba and is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

Jacqueline is deeply principled and disciplined in her legal practice and holds herself to exceptionally high standards to ensure the best possible outcome for her clients. She also takes a vested interest in representing clients who remain underserved by the justice system: children and youth in care, incarcerated and gang-affiliated youth, members of the LBGTQIA2S community, people experiencing mental health crises, victims of relational abuse, migrant workers, etc.

Strategic Defence

Jacqueline’s style of representation is a mix of fearlessness, persistence and compassion. She entered her articles in criminal defence as Duty Counsel at Legal Aid Manitoba with zero practical experience and a commitment to excel. She has since worked in a private firm, as in-house counsel at a non-profit and most recently as a solo firm owner. She has also successfully represented clients on files of varying complexities and severity, from traffic tickets to trafficking fentanyl and firearms, as well as inter-provincial bail hearings and warrant executions.

In addition to her legal work, Jacqueline is a professional writer, painter, designer and singer-musician. She uses her skills of mental visualization, pattern recognition, and emotional intelligence to craft effective defence and resolution strategies for her clients at all stages of their criminal file with repeated success.

Jacqueline’s defence work is also shaped by her passions for human psychology, cultural anthropology, state surveillance tactics and technology, and wrongful convictions.

Mentorship & Community

Jacqueline believes positive and effective mentorship is key to a healthy and sustainable legal profession and society at large.

After graduating high school in Winnipeg, Jacqueline completed a 6-month volunteer program called Katimavik, where she lived and volunteered with 11 other youth aged 17-25 in Yellowknife and Montreal.

Jacqueline later acted as the LGBT* Director for the University of Winnipeg Students Association, during which successfully advocated for inclusive on-campus fitness facility policies which were later implemented by the University of Manitoba Students’ Association on the University of Manitoba campus.

At the University of Manitoba, Jacqueline was a member of the Manitoba Indigenous Law Students Association and mentored incoming first and second-year members. Jacqueline also completed the Bilingual J.D. stream in its first year and contributed to developing its core curriculum as a summer student employee for the department.

Today, Jacqueline focuses her passion for volunteering on mentoring and learning from law students, articling students, and new lawyers across Canada, especially those who are Indigenous.
